Heartland Cardiology, LLC is donating AED’s (Automated External Defibrillator) to churches within the Wichita community. Heartland physicians and staff will demonstrate proper use and technique of the device to parishioners in the event someone is showing signs of cardiac arrest (heart attack).
November 5th, Dr. Shaheen and his staff at Heartland Cardiology donated an AED to the Church of the Resurrection Catholic Church, located at 4910 N. Woodlawn. Dr. Shaheen stated the importance of our community being trained and understanding what to do when a person experiences sudden cardiac arrest.
Many cardiac arrest conditions can be reversed with the immediate delivery of a defibrillation shock from an AED quickly accessed by the public. Follow-up care provided by responding Emergency Medical Services (EMS) agents and ambulance transport of the patient to a hospital are critical components. Church staff were trained by one of Heartland’s employees on how to use the AED.
The benefit of the AED is that it features Real CPR Help, a CPR feedback tool that is able to actually see what you are doing and provide feedback to help you do it well. Audio and visual prompts help you rescue with confidence. It will not allow an electrical shock to be delivered if the device does not detect the proper cardiac arrest condition.
